Methodology

Source: 700+ teacher placements made by UP2U Agency between January 2017 and May 2026. Teachers represent 40+ nationalities, with the largest cohorts from Algeria, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Morocco, Russia, Serbia, Tunisia, Ukraine, and Uzbekistan.

Salary figures reflect signed labor-contract amounts as reported by the teacher at the time of placement. Cost-of-living figures combine teacher self-reports collected via post-placement surveys (n=312 in 2025–2026) with public price data from Vietnamese retail and rental listings.

All figures are monthly, in USD, gross of Vietnamese personal income tax. The Vietnamese PIT for foreign workers earning under $2,500/month typically lands at 5–10% of taxable income; many teachers' net pay is close to gross because Vietnamese-sponsored work permits include partial deductions.

Do non-native English speakers really get hired in Vietnam?

Yes. Vietnam is among the few major ESL markets that systematically hires non-native English speakers at full salary rates. UP2U Agency has placed 700+ non-native teachers from 40+ countries (Algeria, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Morocco, Philippines, Russia, Serbia, Tunisia, Uzbekistan, and others) between 2017 and 2026. The market evaluates teachers on classroom skill, English clarity, and reliability rather than passport.

What qualifications are required?

A 120-hour TEFL or TESOL certificate is required for legal work in Vietnam. A bachelor's degree (in any subject) enables full work permits and access to higher-paying placements. Teachers without a degree work on business visas with quarterly visa runs and earn $800–$1,200/month at smaller training centers. English fluency is verified via the EF SET C1 test for most placements.
